Photo Essay

A picture is truly worth a thousand words. As descriptive as an essay can be, nothing compares to the specific details a camera can capture. The photos I have selected to be in my photo essay convey feelings of comfort and home as translated through people I care about. I’ve always felt that the relationships I have can create the most emotional change in my life, more so than objects. And especially through parent’s weekend, I’ve realized the impact the relationships I’ve made have influenced me and how dependent I’ve become of them. Simply the presence or voice of people I care about can completely change my mood especially in this new environment of college. The people in these photos all have relationships with me and each other. Some relationships, like my parents, have started from birth and they have seen me evolve into an adult which has created dynamic changes in our relationship. Other relationships, like my best friends from home, have been with me since elementary school. Between the two of them, I’ve shared countless memories and experiences. And finally, my relationships with friends that I’ve made this year, although new, have created a home away from home for me as I navigate through freshman year. These people, have shaped me to become who I am in one way or another. Spending time with them triggers a flurry of emotions that help me find stability through precarious situations.

  1. Grade breakdown:

4/4 for intro (2 for framing a "feeling" or "emotion." Good job in explaining what you mean by a feeling of "comfort" or "home".) (& 2 for grammar/writing mechanics)
3/3 for photos (I love the color scheme of these photos; the warm yellowy tones/tint create a feeling of warmth and familiarity. Overall, good job on composition too!)
    3/3 for hashtags

    Total: 10/10
    Letter Grade: A
